Translation

BTS is the most popular K-pop idol group these days. This group consists of 7 members. At first, they mainly sang hip-hop songs. But now they sing a variety of genres of music. They are also making songs in Korean, Japanese, and English as well. Recently, they have been receiving many awards at various awards ceremonies around the world.

The BTS group communicates a lot with their fans through social media, so fans like them. Personally, I like the lyrics of BTS’ songs as they resonate well with me. I think all of their performances are really incredible. That is why I genuinely like to watch BTS perform. So, this time, I will unquestionably go to the BTS concert in Los Angeles. I really hope the concert does not get canceled this time.

How was it?  Were you able to understand most of the parts? Even if you didn’t, it’s totally fine because we will see the meaning together now.

All right, then, Now let’s break down some valuable expressions together.

가수 방탄소년단은 요새 가장 인기 있는 그룹이에요. 이 그룹은 7명의 멤버로 구성되어 있어요.

In this part, we can hear an example of how to say “consist of, be made up of, composed of” in Korean.

구성되어 있다 means that something is made up of several small concept objects or people. So it is usually translated into English like consist of, composed of, made up of. Additionally, as a synonym, there’s another expression, “이루어져 있다.”

Let’s see some examples of how these expressions are used.

BTS는 7명의 멤버로 구성되어 있어요. BTS is consist of 7 members

블랙핑크는 제니, 지수, 리사, 로제로 이루어져 있어요. Blackpink is consists of Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa, Rose.

모든 생물체는 세포로 구성되어 있어요. All living things are composed of cells

한국어 스터디 카페 팟캐스트는 대화편과 이야기편으로 이루어져 있어요. Korean study cafe podcast is made up of dialogue episodes and story episodes.

All right, now that we know how to say consist of, being made up of, composed of in Korean like 구성되어 있다, 이루어져 있다, we go on to hear the next part and learn a new expression.

처음에는 힙합 장르의 노래를 주로 했어요. 하지만 지금은 다양한 장르의 음악을 하고 있어요. 또한 한국어, 일본어, 영어로 노래를 만들고 있어요. 최근에는 세계의 다양한 시상식에서 많은 상을 받고 있어요.

In this part, we could hear many expressions that are used the word 의.

힙합 장르의 노래

다양한 장르의 음악

세계의 다양한 시상식

It’s always confusing. Right? That’s because sometimes you get confused with English. So now let’s learn how to use the word 의 in Korean, which can be translated into English as if “of” or “‘s.”

In English, there are two types of possessive prepositions. The first one is “‘s,” and the second one is “of.” On the other hand, in Korean, there’s only one possessive preposition. That is 의.

First of all, let’s look at the English case to compare it with the Korean one.

When we use it while speaking, it’s always like this.

For example, Jimin’s bag, Suga’s sunglasses, and BTS’s songs.

So the owner of the objects, people, etc., always goes first. Again like this, Jimin’s bag, Suga’s sunglasses, BTS’s songs.

However, when we use the word “of” while speaking, it’s the opposite.

Bag of Jimin, sunglasses of Suga, songs of BTS.

Did you notice? This time the possessions go first. Also, when we use this word, sometimes it doesn’t have to be possessions. It can also be things or people in the smaller group included in the bigger group. Such as:

·       awards of the world

·       the population of the city

·       Drawers of the desk

On the other hand, when you speak Korean, the order of the words is the same as “how we use them in English.”

Bigger concept and the owner always go first

So it’s like this

지민의 가방 Jimin’s bag, 슈가의 선글라스 Suga’s sunglasses, 방탄소년단의 노래 BTS’s songs

세계의 시상식들 awards of the world, 그 도시의 인구 the population of the city, 그 책상의 서랍들 Drawers of the desk

So let’s go back to the expressions that we heard from the story. Those were these, right?

·       힙합 장르의 노래 songs of hip hop genre

·       다양한 장르의 음악 music of various genres

·       세계의 다양한 시상식 various awards of the world.

In this part, let’s see how to say “must, no matter what” in Korean.

You can use many different ways to say this meaning in Korean. But there are the most common ones to use. That’s 꼭 or 반드시.

Basically, these two terms mean the same where it is expressed with the nuance that they will do it no matter what the cost or at any cost.

Let’s take a look at more examples.

오늘은 반드시 BTS를 만날 거예요.Today I will meet BTS no matter what

언젠가 꼭 BTS의 사인을 받을 거예요. One day I will get autographs of BTS at any cost

제 자리를 반드시 맡아 두세요. You must keep a seat for me

오늘 숙제를 꼭 해야 할 필요는 없어요. You don’t have to complete your homework today.

How is it? Do you get the meaning? If not, please leave us a comment on our website, then I will try my best to solve your questions.
